ARCH 221 Report: The study of what we built

History of architecture starts when first time men though to build beautifully. Architectural history is alone among the built riches of the past. In the beginning of the architecture, buildings that are conceptualized and they were represented in drawings and models. These models include images, figures, knowledge which show people’s life style or etc. These pictorial evidences helps for further generation. In modern architecture, Building’s ideal appearance is based on the these pictorial views. For example plan, elevations and sections give information about the buildings and help to explain structure. These methods newly are applied, but in the sixth century, these were used by some famous architects such as Hagia Sophia. These sketches and drawings that convey to further generation have an important effect to be developed and understood design ideas and views. Unlike literary evidence, pictorial evidence visually enables to understand the act of shaping people’s daily environment.

There no doubt that literary evidence has a strong effect for the birth of most structures. Written documents convey the structure  and design of buildings. For instance, Pre-Islamic records and literary evidence attest to the existence of visual art forms. At times, architects prefer to use writing to express obviously. Taking notes and written documents contribute to understand the essence of the design idea. Both of  kinds of the evidences occur architectural fund of information.  The author says that there are four premises that underline the scope and treatment of our survey. This is significant point appertaining to history of architecture. These are related to the structure of buildings. However, in the third, it is mentioned that all buildings of the past, regardless of size or status should be deemed worthy of study. This is definitely true because every architectural work has a particular labor and process of compose.
